While reports of alleged push-ins of Bangladeshi nationals from India have surfaced at several border points across the country, no such incident has been reported at the Phulbari border in Dinajpur.
Border Guard Bangladesh's Phulbari 29 BGB Battalion confirmed that no push-in attempt has been observed along the approximately 78.5-kilometre border area under its responsibility. However, given the seriousness of the broader situation, surveillance and patrol activities have been significantly stepped up.
BGB sources said the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has made no push-in attempt in this stretch. Nor has any information been received about Bangladeshi nationals gathering, staying, or being held on the Indian side of the border.
Lt. Col. Mohammad Arif-uz-Zaman (PSC), commanding officer of the 29 BGB Battalion, said no flag meeting between BGB and BSF has been held on this issue recently. However, communication between the two forces continues at the battalion commander level.
"No reliable information has been received about the location or possible holding points of any alleged Bangladeshis in our area of responsibility," he said. "But in light of the current situation, border security has been further strengthened."
The BGB said intelligence surveillance, regular patrols, and ground-level information gathering have all been increased at all subordinate Border Outposts (BOPs). Awareness campaigns are also being conducted among border residents to guard against illegal infiltration and possible push-ins.
Local residents said they are monitoring the situation alongside the BGB and remain alert to any unusual activity along the border.
