Locals in Nageshwari formed a human chain on Tuesday morning, demanding a permanent embankment to stop the Dudhkumar River's devastating erosion.

Braving heavy rain, residents gathered at 10:00 a.m. on the riverbanks of Char Rahman Kuti in Berubari Union. Speakers at the event included former Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Abdul Motaleb, former UP member Anwar Hossain, and community members Moinal Haque, Azad Hossain, Rafiqul Mia, Hasen Khan, and Surat Ali.

The speakers highlighted that the Dudhkumar River consumes homes, businesses, orchards, and croplands every year, driving local families into severe poverty. The continuous erosion has been so extensive that it has visibly altered the geographic map of Berubari Union over the past few years.

While authorities have placed sand-filled geo-bags in some affected areas, residents say these temporary measures have failed to halt the river's advance. The community is now urgently appealing to the government for the construction of a permanent dam to protect their livelihoods and properties.
