


The district administration conducted a special drive at Maju Chowdhury's Ghat in Laxmipur Sadar Upazila on Thursday to protect government land and preserve the local environment. Two individuals were fined a total of Tk.80,000 in separate cases for illegally stockpiling and transporting sand on government property.
The operation was led by Ariful Islam the Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate of Sadar Upazila. Authorities filed two cases against those involved for damaging the environment and ecosystem through unauthorized sand extraction and transport.
During the drive the officials seized pipes and other equipment used for sand transportation also citing risks to the riverbank embankments and sluice gates in the area.
Local businesspeople and residents were warned against encroaching on or damaging government property and were urged to conduct business activities lawfully while maintaining environmental balance.
The operation was carried out with support from the Sadar Upazila Land Office, Police, Battalion Ansar, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), Water Development Board, Coast Guard, Naval Police and the Department of Environment.
