


Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested nine people along with 5 lakh Yaba tablets worth Tk 15 crore in Chittagong. Five of those detained are Rohingya nationals.
The arrests were made during a on a fishing trawler in the Bay of Bengal, near Ghat No. 15 under Patenga Police Station, around 10:00pm on Friday (April 10).
The detainees include Rohingya nationals Syed Alam (45), Sultan Ahmed (55), Md. Yusuf (45), Md. Qasim (30), and Md. Ismail (40), all from refugee camps in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar. The others are Shah Alam (35) from Maheshkhali, Azam Ullah (57) from Teknaf, Md. Faruk (25), and Chanaullah (57).
At a press briefing held at RAB-7’s Chandgaon camp on Saturday, Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hafizur Rahman said the was conducted based on intelligence information.
During the operation, RAB recovered three sacks hidden in the trawler’s fish storage area. Inside, officers found 50 packets, each containing 10,000 tablets, totaling 5 lakh pieces.
According to RAB, the suspects admitted during initial interrogation that they had been involved in Yaba trafficking for some time.
