Tamim Iqbal has confirmed that members of the current Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) ad hoc committee will be allowed to contest in the upcoming board elections.
The previous BCB committee, led by Aminul Islam Bulbul, was dissolved following multiple allegations, including irregularities in the election process. In response, the National Sports Council (NSC) formed an 11-member ad hoc committee, appointing Tamim as its chairman.
Other members include Fahim Sinha, Rafiqul Islam Babu, Salman Ispahani, Tanzil Chowdhury, Athar Ali Khan, Minhajul Abedin Nannu, Israfil Khasru, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Mirza Yasir Abbas and Rashna Imam. Fahim Sinha previously served as a BCB director under former presidents Faruk Ahmed and Nazmul Hasan Papon.
The ad hoc committee’s primary task is to organize elections within 90 days. Under Bangladesh’s sports regulations, current committee members are eligible to run in those elections.
At his first press conference as BCB president, Tamim assured that the election will be free and fair. He emphasized that all interested candidates—not just current members—will have equal opportunity to participate.
Tamim had earlier pledged to hold elections within three months. However, it remains unclear whether he will continue in his role throughout the election period.
An NSC investigation into the previous board confirmed allegations of election interference, manipulation in e-voting, and abuse of power.
