After a long time of traffic, work, and endless responsibilities, your body may be tired but your mind refuses to rest. The result? Sleepless nights, shallow rest, and mornings that begin with fatigue instead of freshness.
But there’s a simple ritual that can change this pattern just 10 minutes of calm before sleep. Experts say meditation is one of the easiest and most natural ways to release stress and prepare the mind for peaceful rest.
Dhaka-based clinical psychologist Dr. Ruma Hasan explains, “Bedtime meditation helps the brain shift from alertness to relaxation. It slows the heartbeat, eases anxiety, and signals to your body that it’s safe to rest.”
Start by turning off your phone and dimming the lights. Create a calm and cozy space perhaps with soft music or a gentle aroma. Sit upright, close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Inhale slowly through your nose, hold for a few seconds, and exhale gently.
Thoughts will come and go don’t chase them, just let them pass. When your mind begins to settle, reflect on a few good things that happened during the day, no matter how small.
This short nightly ritual helps regulate the body’s stress hormones and improves sleep quality over time. Studies show that regular mindfulness before bed can lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety, and ease mild depression.
As Dr. Hasan said, “Meditation isn’t about blocking thoughts it’s about noticing them and letting them go.”
So tonight, before you drift to sleep, give yourself ten quiet minutes. No screens, no rush just your breath, your heartbeat, and a little peace before the day ends.
