No Tolerance for Family Card Irregularities, Says Minister Tuku

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku has warned that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in irregularities in the distribution of Family Cards, urging the public to report any wrongdoing.

“Everyone will receive a Family Card in phases. If anyone tries to commit irregularities in the distribution process, inform us. No one involved in such misconduct will be spared, and strict action will be taken against them,” he said.

The minister made the remarks as the chief guest at the inauguration of field-level data collection for the Family Card programme at the Tangail Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium on Wednesday afternoon, October 14.

Tuku said personnel had been recruited to collect information by visiting households. Beneficiary families would be identified through data collection and verification, so people would not need to run around offices or seek recommendations to obtain a card. He urged everyone to remain vigilant.

“We in the BNP try to implement what we promise. Before the election, we said we would introduce Family Cards, and today the programme has been launched,” he said.

He added that the government had also promised Farmer Cards, which the prime minister inaugurated in Tangail. Allowances for imams and muezzins had begun, while an allowance scheme had also been arranged for Hindu temple priests. According to Tuku, the government had been working to fulfil its election pledges over the past seven months.

Referring to promises made by various political figures before the election, Tuku said some had made different kinds of pledges, while others had even sold “tickets to heaven.” He urged people to remain cautious about such claims, adding that he did not make false assurances.

He also pledged to make every effort to fulfil the commitments he had made for Tangail’s development. Durga Puja security

Speaking about security for the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja celebrations, Tuku said law enforcement agencies would remain active to ensure the safety of Puja mandaps.

He said authorities would maintain close surveillance to prevent any untoward incidents and that the administration would provide overall assistance to the festival venues.

Special guests at the event included Shahidullah, deputy director of the District Social Services Office; Md Adibul Islam, additional superintendent of police for crime and operations; former district BNP member secretary Md Mahmudul Haque Sanu; former district BNP organising secretaries Ashraf Paheli and Shafiqul Rahman Khan Shafik; Upazila BNP President Md Azgar Ali; and Senior Joint Secretary Advocate Azim Uddin Biplob, among others.

The programme was chaired by Tangail Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shaheen Mia. Leaders and activists from district and upazila BNP units and their affiliated and associate organisations also attended.

Later, at the upazila auditorium, Tuku took part in distributing delivery orders for rice allocated by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations.

He also attended the distribution of financial grants from Tangail Municipality for Puja mandaps across its 18 wards.
