Bangladesh has announced the start of the recruitment process for workers seeking employment in Malaysia, with the Malaysian government agreeing in principle to recruit 10,000 Bangladeshi workers at zero cost. Malaysian authorities have also agreed to enlist 338 Bangladeshi recruiting agencies.
The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment disclosed the development in a press release on Thursday, October 15.
According to the statement, 338 recruiting agencies have been approved for enlistment to ensure a transparent and orderly recruitment process. The list includes BOESL, the country’s sole government-owned recruiting agency, 25 processing agencies and 312 recruiting agencies.
The ministry said Malaysia had also made what it described as a landmark decision to recruit 10,000 workers entirely free of cost following a special request from the Bangladesh government.
Announcing the start of the recruitment process, the ministry said interested workers could complete the procedures for travelling to Malaysia through enlisted and approved recruiting agencies. They would also be able to undergo medical examinations at authorised medical centres.
No single medical centre will be given exclusive authority to conduct the examinations, the statement said. The arrangement is intended to ensure that workers can pursue overseas employment through an accessible and transparent process without monopolistic control.
The ministry expressed gratitude to the prime minister for providing guidance and leadership in securing the development. It also thanked the Malaysian prime minister, Malaysia’s Ministry of Human Resources and the relevant authorities for their cooperation and positive approach.
The statement said the responsibility now lay with the government, recruiting agencies and workers to work together to make the opportunity successful and establish a long-term, orderly and sustainable labour market for Bangladesh in Malaysia.
