A local court has placed five accused including Mobarak Hossain Emon alias "David Emon" on a 10-day remand in connection with separate murder and firearms cases.
The Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Chittagong issued the order on Sunday afternoon.
According to Hathazari Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Kazi Md. Tarek Aziz, investigators initially sought a 14-day remand (seven days for each case) filed at the Fatikchhari Police Station. Following the hearing, the magistrate approved a total of 10 days allowing law enforcement to interrogate the suspects for five days per case.
The remand follows a targeted operation late last month. Police arrested four of the accused including Emon on July 29 from the Jhumjhumpur area of Jessore. Based on intelligence gathered during their initial interrogation police raided an abandoned house in the Manikpur area of Fatikchhari on July 30. During the early-morning raid officers recovered a foreign pistol two locally made firearms (LGs) and several other domestic weapons.
