Education officials in southwestern Bangladesh have launched an investigation into allegations of irregularities in the election of the School Management Committee (SMC) at Fatepur Government Primary School in Paikgacha, Khulna.
The complaint was filed with the Upazila Primary Education Office by Subarna Akter Priya, a local resident, about 10 days after the election was held at No. 36 Fatepur Government Primary School.
In response, Assistant Upazila Education Officers Sachindra Nath and Bhudhar Chandra Sana visited the school on June 27 to investigate the allegations.
According to local sources, the election was held on June 9 following the official schedule and notification process. Residents, parents, and community leaders attended the vote, which was conducted by direct ballot in what organizers described as a peaceful environment.
The complainants allege that the election did not fully comply with the applicable regulations, raising questions about the transparency of the process.
During the investigation, the education officials met with the school's head teacher, newly elected committee members, parents, and local residents to gather information.
Head teacher Sheikh Badsha Alamgir rejected the allegations, saying the committee was formed through a transparent election with the participation of parents and respected community members.
He said Matiar Rahman and Muslima Khatun were elected as community representatives, while Mujibur Rahman Sardar and Firozul Islam were elected as male parent representatives. Habiba Khatun and Ratna Khatun were elected as female parent representatives.
According to the head teacher, the complainant attended the election meeting, signed the official resolution book, and did not raise any objections at the time. He questioned why the complaint was submitted 10 days later. Subarna Akter Priya acknowledged that she attended the meeting and signed the documents but said she did not fully understand the process at the time. She said she filed the complaint seeking a fresh election. Assistant Upazila Education Officer Sachindra Nath confirmed that the investigation was conducted following instructions from higher authorities and said a detailed report would be submitted soon.
Acting Upazila Primary Education Officer Sanjay Kumar Debnath said the office would comment further after reviewing the investigation report.
The dispute has drawn significant attention among local residents and parents, who are now awaiting the findings of the official investigation.
