A 13-year-old schoolboy who went missing while flying a kite in southwestern Bangladesh was found dead in a nearby wetland, with police awaiting an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The incident occurred Saturday afternoon in the South Para area of Nowagram village in Kalia Upazila, Narail district.
The victim, Hussain Sheikh, was the son of Sabu Sheikh and a seventh-grade student at a local school. According to local residents, Hussain went to fly a kite with two friends in a wetland near his home. After the kite string snapped, he ran alone to retrieve it. When he failed to return, his friends began searching for him. They later found a body in a secluded part of the wetland with its head buried in the mud. After pulling it out by the legs, they identified the victim as Hussain.
Residents said they did not observe any visible external injuries on the boy's body. However, local sources reported that blood was coming from his nose and mouth. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, and the incident has prompted speculation in the community. Authorities have not confirmed the cause of death.
Robin Halder, Assistant Superintendent of Police for the Kalia Circle, said officers recovered the body and sent it to Narail Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
"The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem examination report is received," Halder said.
