Five people died and two children were seriously injured early Tuesday (June 2) when a private car crashed into a parked truck on the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila.

The accident occurred around 4:00 am in the Maligram area.

The deceased have been identified as Nurjahan, 50, her son Arif Islam, 24, Aisha Begum, 28, Rakib, 18, and the unidentified 25-year-old driver of the car. The injured, seven-year-old Ashraful Hossain and three-year-old Tashfia, are currently receiving treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital. All victims were passengers in the private car.

According to the Shibchar Highway Police, the Jessore-bound car from Dhaka rammed into the back of a gas-laden truck that was parked on the side of the road near the Maligram bus stand. Four people died on the spot. Rescuers transported the injured to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where Rakib later succumbed to his injuries.

Bhanga Fire Service Station Manager Abu Zafar stated that rescue teams responded immediately upon receiving the news. The impact of the crash left the car severely mangled, and firefighters had to cut through the twisted metal to recover the driver's body.

Shibchar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman confirmed that both vehicles have been seized. Police are currently working to verify the driver's identity and investigate the exact circumstances that led to the collision.
