Mohammad Khayer Uddin Molla, Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Faridpur Region, has called on farmers to shift toward safe and chemical-free food production to protect the health of future generations.
Speaking as the chief guest at the "Partner Congress" held at the Muksudpur Upazila Parishad auditorium on Thursday morning, Molla noted that while Bangladesh has seen a significant boost in agricultural yields, the quality of food safety remains a concern.
"The excessive use of pesticides and harmful chemicals is posing grave health risks, contributing to chronic diseases and premature deaths," he said. "To ensure a healthy nation, we must prioritize toxin-free farming practices immediately."
The event was organized under the PARTNER (Program on Agricultural and Rural Transformation for Nutrition, Entrepreneurship and Resilience) project.
Dr. Md. Mamunur Rahman, Deputy Director of DAE Gopalganj, attended as a special guest. He highlighted the economic struggles of the farming community, noting that even 54 years after independence, many farmers do not receive fair prices. He emphasized that price stability is essential to encouraging sustainable and safe agricultural growth.
The program was chaired by Muksudpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mahmud Ashik Kabir and included contributions from local agricultural officers, livestock specialists, and community leaders.
