The Upazila administration has imposed Section 144 to maintain law and order in the area over BNP's two-party rally in Alfadanga, Faridpur.

On Friday, around 11 pm, Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Russell Iqbal issued an order under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code signed by him. The order was circulated on the social media platform Facebook under the name UNO Alfadanga.

Confirming the matter, Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Russell Iqbal said that according to the issued letter, all measures have been taken by the administration to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of people's lives and property.

According to BNP party sources, a rally was organized by Alfadanga Upazila and Municipal BNP on Saturday (November 29) afternoon at Asaduzzaman Girls' High School in the municipality to implement the 31-point plan announced by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and to make the BNP nominated candidate win the next parliamentary election. Khandaker Nasirul Islam, vice-president of the Central Krishak Dal and the party's nomination candidate for Faridpur 1 constituency, is scheduled to be present as the chief guest at the rally.

On the other hand, a protest rally was organized at Arifuzzaman High School ground in Alfadanga Municipality on Saturday at 3 pm to demand the cancellation of the Upazila and Municipal BNP committees and to protest the terrorist attack on Upazila Jubo Dal convener Minhazur Rahman Lipon in the incident of violence centered on the rally of the two factions of Boalmari Upazila BNP on the Revolutionary Solidarity Day on November 7. BNP's nomination candidate for Faridpur-1 constituency in the upcoming national elections and Boalmari Upazila BNP Vice-President VP Shamsuddin Mia Jhunur is expected to be present as the chief guest at this rally. It is learnt that Section 144 has been issued with the emphasis on ensuring that no law and order situation deteriorates due to the rally of the two parties of BNP.

The order under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code states, "I, Russell Iqbal, Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate, Alfadanga, Faridpur, by virtue of the powers vested in me, hereby issue an order under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1898, in the school, field and market areas of the municipality of Alfadanga Upazila on 29 November 2025 AD from 10 am to 6 pm every Saturday.

The order letter further states that all types of meetings, protest processions, mass gatherings, carrying explosives, firearms and all types of indigenous weapons, etc., and the presence or movement of five or more people together in the relevant areas during the said period have been completely banned.

In this regard, Nuruzzaman Khasru, General Secretary of the Upazila BNP following Khandaker Nasirul Islam, said that a week ago, we had organized a rally to implement the 31-point program of the BNP and to make the party candidate win. Suddenly, I saw Jhunu supporters miking for the protest rally. The administration has imposed Section 144 for the rally of both parties. Whether we will hold our rally or not, I will inform the district committee about the matter.

Khosbur Rahman Khokon, former organizing secretary of Alfadanga Upazila BNP supported by Shamsuddin Mia Jhunu, said, a protest rally was organized to demand the cancellation of the upazila and municipal BNP committees and to protest the terrorist attack on Upazila Jubo Dal convener Minhazur Rahman Lipon in the violence centered on the rally of both sides of Boalmari Upazila BNP on Revolutionary Solidarity Day on November 7. However, since the administration has imposed Section 144, we will be on the ground to make the program successful.

It is known that after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year, Central Krishak Dal vice-president and former MP Khandaker Nasirul Islam and the other nomination hopeful, Boalmari Upazila BNP's current vice-president, VP Shamsuddin Mia Jhunu, were holding national and local party meetings and rallies. On October 21, after 10 years, the district BNP announced the full committees of Madhukhali, Boalmari and Alfadanga upazilas and municipal BNP in Faridpur-1 constituency. The three upazila and municipal BNP committees were dominated by supporters of Khandaker Nasirul Islam, the vice-president of the Central Krishak Dal and a BNP nomination hopeful in the upcoming national elections. This led to a sharp grouping between Nasir Mia and VP Jhunu Mia. Since the announcement of the committees, VP Shamsuddin Mia Jhunu has continued protests and torch processions in Boalmari and Alfadanga upazilas demanding the cancellation of the committees. On November 7, on the Revolutionary and Solidarity Day, Khandaker Nasirul Islam Group and Shamsuddin Mia Jhunu Group called separate rallies in Boalmari. At one stage, the rallies turned into bloody violence. About 15-20 people from both sides, including Minhazur Rahman Lipon, the convener of the Upazila Jubo Dal, were injured in the violence. In this incident, two main leaders of both parties were accused and counter-cases were filed at the local police station under the Explosive Substances Act.
