District Detective Branch (DB) and Raozan police have arrested three people with locally made weapons and ammunition while they were allegedly preparing to commit a robbery in Raozan, Chattogram.
Police claimed that the arrested individuals are associates of alleged criminal Raihan and had been involved in various criminal activities under his direction.
The three were arrested around 3:25am on Monday, Sept 29, during a joint operation in front of an under-construction madrasa of Mir Bagicha Muniria Jubo Tabligh in Ward No. 1 of Kadulpur Union, the police said.
The arrested individuals were identified as Md Shahadat Hossain Sazzad, 30, of Shawal Khalifa Bari in Raozan; Md Jafar, 38, of East Raozan; and Md Safayet Hossain Sifat, 19.
According to police, they received confidential information that several people had gathered at the location with plans to commit a robbery. A joint operation was subsequently conducted, resulting in the arrest of the three.
Police said they recovered a locally made LG gun, two lead cartridges, a ramda and a knife from the suspects.
During preliminary questioning, police claimed, they found information that Sazzad and Jafar were close associates of Raihan and had allegedly been involved in extortion, illegal sand extraction and other activities under his direction.
Police also said preliminary information indicated that Sifat led a teenage gang allegedly controlled by Raihan.
Authorities said they were verifying further information about Raihan and his associates and that operations were continuing to identify and arrest other people allegedly involved.
Separate cases were filed at Raozan Police Station against the three over allegations of preparing for robbery and possessing illegal firearms.
