Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban this afternoon with marking their first official meeting since the President assumed office.
Upon his arrival at 3:00 PM the Prime Minister was welcomed by the President and introduced to senior presidential staff according to President’s Press Secretary Md. Sarwar Alam.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister briefed the President on his recent official trip to the United States which included his address at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). He detailed his high-level side events, bilateral talks with world leaders and meetings with UN officials and global development partners alongside an overview of general government operations.
President Alamgir congratulated the Prime Minister on his UNGA address, praising it as "visionary, resolute and guiding." He noted that the speech effectively represented Bangladesh’s national interests, strategic aspirations and firm stance on key global issues.
The President expressed confidence that the Prime Minister's participation and diplomatic discussions in New York significantly elevated Bangladesh's international standing, strengthened bilateral ties and safeguarded national interests. Both leaders also exchanged views on matters of state importance before concluding the meeting.
