Qatari mediators will present new proposals to the United States aimed at meeting Iran’s conditions to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in New York also adding that a final US response is expected soon.
The indirect talks have intensified following Tehran's latest proposal. Araghchi noted that diplomatic exchanges through Qatari and Pakistani intermediaries remain active as Iran seeks to convey its terms to Washington and the international community.
Concurrently, the US Treasury Department is expected to grant Iraq a temporary one-month sanctions waiver. This move allows Iraqi Airways to resume flights between Iran and Najaf, a key Shi'ite pilgrimage destination following Iraq's decision to suspend air links in compliance with US measures.
Regional governments face mounting diplomatic strain as US economic pressure forces neighboring nations including Turkey and the UAE to suspend direct flights with Iran. Teheran has warned it may halt regional air travel if its connections remain blocked.
To prevent domestic backlash and safeguard stability the Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi requested exemptions for medical, educational and religious travel with offering security screening to ensure flights are not used for illicit financial transfers or arms smuggling.
Meanwhile the US President Donald Trump dismissed reports claiming Washington offered Iran sanctions relief also calling them false while UAE officials confirmed a weekend meeting between President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
