Popular Bangladeshi writer Humayun Ahmed was remembered with profound love and respect on his 77th birth anniversary at his beloved Nuhashpalli estate in Gazipur.
The day's events began on Thursday morning with the writer's wife, Meher Afroz Shaon, and their two sons, Ninit Humayun and Nishad Humayun, visiting his grave. Well-wishers, fans, poets, writers, and theater enthusiasts gathered at the Lichutala area of Nuhashpalli for prayer and to offer floral tributes and cut a celebratory cake. The previous night, at 12:01 am on Wednesday, 1,777 candles were lit to mark the occasion. A distinct feature of the tribute was the presence of fans and readers dressed as Himu, one of the writer's most iconic characters, wearing his signature yellow Punjabi.
While admitting the current failure to realize Humayun Ahmed's dream of building a cancer hospital and museum, Meher Afroz Shaon expressed hope. She referred to the attendees and loyalists as "the soldiers of Humayun Ahmed," expressing confidence that even if she and the children are not present, these soldiers will one day step up and fulfill his dream project.
Various memorial events, including Milad and Doa Mahfils and the distribution of food among orphans, were organized throughout the day at Nuhashpalli.
Humayun Ahmed was born on November 13, 1948, in Mohonganj, Netrokona. He passed away from cancer on July 19, 2012, in New York. The novelist's creative work ensures his lasting presence in the hearts of his fans.
