Pakistan has appointed Shaheen Shah Afridi as the captain for the upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against South Africa next month.
The decision was finalized following a meeting in Islamabad attended by white-ball head coach Mike Hesson, Director High Performance Aqib Javed, and members of the selection committee. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released a statement late on Monday confirming the appointment but did not specify the duration of Afridi's tenure.
This will be Afridi's second leadership role for Pakistan, having previously served a brief stint as the Twenty20 International (T20I) captain last year. That T20I captaincy concluded shortly after the team suffered a 4-1 series defeat in New Zealand.
The senior men's team is currently involved in a Test series against South Africa.
