Indonesia and Bangladesh to Deepen Cultural Cooperation

Indonesia and Bangladesh are moving to strengthen their bilateral ties through enhanced cultural diplomacy. On Wednesday Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Listyowati met with Bangladesh's Minister of Cultural Affairs Nitai Roy Chowdhury, to discuss expanding cultural cooperation. State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom and other senior ministry officials were also in attendance.

According to a statement released by the Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka, the discussions focused on increasing people-to-people contact which both nations recognize as a vital foundation for expanding broader bilateral relations. Officials from both countries exchanged views on launching collaborative programs across various creative sectors including the performing and visual arts cultural heritage museums literature and handicrafts.

This renewed focus on cultural exchange builds crucial momentum ahead of 2027 a milestone year that will commemorate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Bangladesh.

Furthermore Ambassador Listyowati expressed a strong desire to work closely with Bangladesh during Indonesia's upcoming tenure on the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICSICH), a position the country will hold from 2026 to 2030.
