Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir arrived in the Iranian capital on Thursday (May 21) to advance ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a ceasefire and easing severe military tensions between the United States and Iran.
Iran's semi-official ISNA news agency confirmed the high-level military visit, reporting that General Munir will hold strategic meetings with top Iranian government and defense officials. Discussions are expected to focus heavily on regional security frameworks and bilateral cooperation.
Islamabad has taken an active role as a diplomatic bridge between Washington and Tehran to de-escalate the geopolitical crisis in West Asia. General Munir’s arrival closely follows a surprise trip on Wednesday (May 20) by Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, marking Naqvi's second sudden visit to Tehran in less than a week.
According to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, these fast-paced, high-level visits aim to finalize active diplomatic framework agreements between the conflicting parties. Regional political analysts note that Pakistan's dual-channel military and civilian diplomacy is significantly accelerating the groundwork required for a sustainable ceasefire.
