Allegations of attack, looting, and arson have surfaced in Bagerhat’s Morelganj following a violent dispute over land possession.

The victim, Shamim alias Shukur Mridha—a local businessman and mobile financial services agent—claimed that a group of 40 to 50 people attacked his home in Ghera village around 9:00 PM on Thursday. The attackers reportedly beat the residents indiscriminately and held them hostage at knifepoint.

According to the complainant, the group looted cash, livestock, and other valuables before setting the house on fire. The violence allegedly stems from a long-standing dispute over the ownership of the land where the house was built.

Morelganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mahmudur Rahman confirmed that a police team has already visited the site. "We are waiting for a formal written complaint. Once received, we will investigate and take necessary legal action," the OC stated.
