The body of a young girl, Tasmia, was recovered from the Madhumoti River in Lohagara upazila on Saturday morning, two days after she went missing during a family outing.
Tasmia was the daughter of Md. Jinnah Sheikh from Shahbazpur village in Jashore Sadar.
According to family sources, Jinnah Sheikh had traveled to his father-in-law’s house in Kundashi, Lohagara, for the Eid holidays. On March 26, the family visited the Pangkharchar area of the Madhumoti River, a popular local spot known as "mini Cox’s Bazar." While the family was busy taking photos on a trawler, Tasmia reportedly fell into the river unnoticed. Despite immediate search efforts by locals and the fire service, she could not be found.
At approximately 11:30 AM on Saturday (March 28), locals spotted the child’s body floating in the river near Dikrchar, about 3.5 kilometers from where she disappeared. Upon being notified, naval police recovered the body.
Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rahman confirmed the recovery, stating that the body was handed over to the family following legal procedures.
The tragic incident has left the family and the local community in deep mourning.
