Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Gazipur Metropolitan unit, organized a significant protest march and rally on Friday (4:30 pm) to press for two key demands: the issuance of the implementation order for the July National Charter and the holding of a referendum prior to the upcoming national elections.
The demonstration started from the Bhogra Bypass intersection, traveled along various parts of the Gazipur-Dhaka highway, and concluded with a rally at the Malek Bari area. The entire route was reportedly "abuzz with slogans" as thousands of leaders and activists joined, transforming the gathering into a vast mobilization. Professor Jamal Uddin, Ameer of Gazipur Metropolitan Jamaat and chief guest, asserted that the July National Charter is essential for creating a "truly democratic environment" in the country. He stressed that a referendum is vital to verify the opinion of the people and demanded that these steps be implemented through a peaceful political process. Md. Khairul Hasan, Jamaat-nominated MP candidate for Gazipur-5 and Nayeb-e-Amir, emphasized that the National Charter's implementation is crucial for the "reconstruction of a democratic state," vowing that the peaceful movement will continue. Md. Hossain Ali, Jamaat-nominated candidate for Gazipur-2 and Nayeb-e-Amir, stated there is "no way to resolve the political crisis" without a referendum, stressing that "the decision of the people is the highest authority." Dr. Hafizur Rahman, Jamaat candidate for Gazipur New-6, argued that the Charter is necessary for establishing a "just social system" and pledged to leverage the people's desire for change to "restore" the new 6 seats of Gazipur.
The rally was moderated by Metropolitan Jamaat Secretary ASM Farooq, with speeches also delivered by several other metropolitan and local unit leaders, including affiliate groups like Chhatra Shibir.
