he Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has started preparations for its next election, which is expected to be held within 30 days after the official schedule is announced.
At its third meeting on Monday, the current ad hoc committee decided to form a three-member election commission. The names of the members have not yet been finalized. The committee has also called for councilor nominations from all categories, with expectations that the process will be completed within a week.
District sports bodies are still operating under their previous committees. However, District Administrators have the authority to appoint councilors, including former cricketers, captains, or sports organizers—even if they are not members of the district sports organizations.
The committee also decided to dissolve the previously announced ad hoc committees of the Chittagong, Sylhet, and Barisal regional cricket associations.
In a press release, the BCB confirmed that it will soon issue a formal notice inviting councilor nominations in line with clause 12.7 of its constitution. The proposed election commission will include one representative from the Ministry of Youth and Sports or the National Sports Council (NSC), with the remaining two members nominated by the BCB.
Separately, the board approved Coca-Cola Bangladesh as its official beverage partner for the next two years.
After the meeting, BCB president Tamim Iqbal and ad hoc committee member Fahim Sinha inspected the scoreboard at Mirpur Stadium. The board also plans to build a lounge for former cricketers.
Tamim said the lounge is intended to offer a space similar to facilities at Lord’s in England. “Former cricketers will be able to come, spend time, and enjoy the view. We hope to complete it within three months. Access will be managed through entry cards,” he said.
