Bangladesh women’s cricket team recovered from an early batting collapse to post a record 220 for six against Australia in the second ODI of their first bilateral series against the hosts.
Batting first after losing the toss on Sunday, October 11, Bangladesh lost three wickets inside the first eight overs. Farzana returned to the pavilion for a duck after facing 13 balls in the fourth over, leaving the team under pressure.
Sobhana Mostary and captain Nigar Sultana Joty then steadied the innings with a remarkable partnership.
Mostary reached her half-century off 66 balls before scoring a century off 123 deliveries. She became the first Bangladeshi woman to score an ODI century on Australian soil, and it was also the first hundred of her career.
After Bangladesh had slumped to eight for three, Mostary and Nigar built a 195-run partnership, the highest partnership in a women’s ODI at the Brisbane ground.
Mostary was eventually bowled for 118 off 134 balls. The innings is the highest individual score by a Bangladesh women’s player in ODIs, surpassing the previous record of 107 set by Farzana Haque. Mostary also became the fourth Bangladeshi woman to score an ODI century.
At the other end, Nigar remained unbeaten on 74 off 114 balls. However, her innings was relatively slow as she struggled to accelerate the scoring rate when needed.
For Australia, Megan Schutt took four wickets, while Garth claimed one. Bangladesh finished their allotted 50 overs at 220 for six, recording their highest ODI total against Australia.
