National Bank has started accepting applications from depositors from Sunday, October 11, and will allow them to withdraw money according to their needs from October 15. Bangladesh Bank confirmed the information on Sunday.
Earlier, on Thursday, October 8, National Bank Chairman Melita Mehjabeen and Acting Managing Director Zahidul Haque met with the central bank governor.
During the meeting, the bank’s chairman briefed the governor on National Bank’s overall situation. The governor said Bangladesh Bank had taken note of the bank’s recent liquidity position and depositors’ demand to withdraw their money.
However, the central bank will not support National Bank by printing money. Instead, the bank will have to borrow from other banks to repay its depositors.
