Mishkatul Islam Chowdhury Pappa, joint convener of the Chattogram South District BNP, has said drug abuse is hindering the desired progress of the younger generation. He warned that drugs are ruining the promising lives of many young people while also harming families and society.
He called on families, educational institutions and concerned local citizens to work together to prevent the spread of drugs, stressing that families and schools must play the most significant roles in eliminating the problem.
Pappa made the remarks as the chief guest at an anti-drug rally and gathering organised by Pukuria Union BNP and its affiliated organisations at Chandpur Bazar in Pukuria, Banshkhali upazila, on Saturday night, October 10.
He said drug trafficking must be stopped and drug-related crimes suppressed, adding that both issues required equal attention and collective action.
“The current BNP government has also declared zero tolerance for drugs,” he said, calling for joint initiatives involving families, educational institutions, public representatives, political parties and society as a whole.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mahmudul Hasan, speaking as a special guest, said police regularly conduct anti-drug operations and work to raise public awareness to build unity against drugs.
“To protect the country’s youth and save the younger generation, we must make this country drug-free,” he said, adding that the police would continue their efforts and take a tougher stance against drugs.
Among those attending the gathering were former Banshkhali municipality mayor Kamrul Islam Hossaini; Banshkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Robiul Haque; Inspector (Investigation) Abdur Razzaque; former upazila BNP general secretary Ibrahim Khalil; former joint convener Fazlul Kader; district BNP member Delwar Azim; Ramdas Police Outpost in-charge Dulal; Banshkhali Court Public Prosecutor Advocate Borhan Uddin Noori; and BNP leaders Nurul Azim, Monir Uddin Mayur, Mainul Haque Palash, Shahadat, Motaleb and Ashfaq, among others.
