Fast bowler Hasan Mahmud made history on Sunday with becoming the first Bangladeshi pacer to take a Test hat-trick. His historic feat came on day three of the one-off Test against Afghanistan at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Hasan dismissed Ismat Alam, Qais Ahmad and Zia-ur-Rehman off consecutive deliveries in the 83rd over, breaking open Afghanistan’s middle order. Ismat was clean-bowled for one, Qais was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das and Zia was trapped LBW after a successful Bangladesh review overturned the initial on-field decision.
The 26-year-old ended a 13-year wait for a Test hat-trick by a Bangladeshi bowler and joining leg-spinner Alok Kapali (2003) and off-spinner Sohag Gazi (2013) as only the third Bangladeshi to accomplish the milestone in the longest format. Hasan also became the first bowler from any nation to record a Test hat-trick in the UAE.
Hasan went on to wrap up the innings, finishing with figures of 5 for 55 to claim his five-wicket haul. Supported by fellow pacer Ebadot Hossain’s 4 for 52, Bangladesh bowled Afghanistan out for 240 also securing a commanding 106-run first-innings lead.
Since his debut in 2024, Hasan has taken five-wicket hauls across Australia, India, Pakistan and the UAE, while also becoming the fastest Bangladeshi fast bowler to reach 50 Test wickets.
