The Bangladesh government is initiating comprehensive reforms to elevate the national education system to global standards, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced Thursday at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Ahmed outlined plans to modernize the sector by integrating technology-based education and practical skills, aiming to make students globally competitive. He stated that the previous Awami League administration severely damaged the country's education system through detrimental practices like auto-promotions and widespread exam cheating. While rebuilding the sector will take time, the minister emphasized that it remains the government's highest priority.
Beyond education, the Home Minister addressed the recent student protests, attributing public confusion surrounding the events to misinformation circulated on social media. He also confirmed the government’s complete readiness to hold the upcoming local government elections this year, dispelling any rumors of uncertainty. "We have no doubt about holding the local government elections," Ahmed assured journalists.
