The High Court has dismissed a writ petition seeking an investigation into the activities of the interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus over the past 18 months.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar delivered the order on Thursday (May 21).
The writ was filed on Sunday (May 17), seeking a judicial inquiry into the interim government’s activities during the period. After the initial hearing, the court set Thursday for issuing its order.
Senior advocate MK Rahman and petitioner-lawyer Mohsin Rashid represented the writ petition. Attorney General Md. Ruhul Quddus Kajal appeared for the state.
During the hearing, the petitioners argued that an “anarchic situation” had developed in several sectors, including the economy and health, over the past 18 months. They requested the formation of an inquiry commission under the Commission of Inquiry Act.
Mohsin Rashid said the petition sought a fair and independent investigation into the events of the period, leaving the method of inquiry to the government’s decision.
The Attorney General had earlier sought time to obtain government instructions. After hearing all parties, the court dismissed the writ petition.
