Govt Working to Repatriate Body of Woman Killed in Lebanon: State Minister

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam stated on Saturday that the government is taking all necessary steps to bring home the body of a Bangladeshi woman killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the Hindu community in Nagarkanda-Salthar, the State Minister assured that the administration stands firmly by the grieving family.

"Our mission has been instructed to ensure the safe return of the body," Shama Obaid Islam said. "While the ongoing conflict has disrupted normal air traffic, we are negotiating to expedite the process despite these challenges."

The Minister further noted that eight Bangladeshis have been killed since the conflict escalated. The government is currently prioritizing the safety of citizens remaining in Lebanon, with several groups already evacuated back to Bangladesh.

Deepali Akhter, daughter of Sheikh Mofazzal from Shalepur village in Faridpur’s Charbhadrasan upazila, was killed last Wednesday during an airstrike in the Lebanese capital.
