Terming the upcoming national polls a "crucial chapter in Bangladesh's democratic transition," Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today expressed strong hope that the members of the Armed Forces would perform their duties with "utmost efficiency and professionalism" to ensure the elections are "smooth and festive."
Addressing a reception at Senakunja in Dhaka Cantonment on Armed Forces Day-2025, Professor Yunus firmly stated his belief that the polls would be held in a "seamless and festive manner" and that the Armed Forces would "discharge their responsibilities with professionalism and expertise."
HE emphasized the upcoming national polls as a critical moment for Bangladesh's democratic transition. Profoundly recalled and paid tribute to the martyrs, wounded, and valiant freedom fighters of the Great Liberation War, as well as the martyrs, injured, and participants of the 2024 July–August student-people’s uprising.
Chief Adviser praised the Armed Forces for continuously reciprocating the trust of citizens by standing by the people during the 2024 uprising and in the "ongoing state reconstruction and reform efforts." Expressed profound shock and sorrow at the deaths and injuries caused by a powerful earthquake across several districts today, underscoring the Armed Forces' crucial role in tackling disasters.
Recalled the formation of the Bangladesh Armed Forces on the battlefield in 1971, specifically mentioning the declaration of independence by the then Major Ziaur Rahman and the historic joint operations on November 21, 1971—now commemorated as Armed Forces Day.
Yunus Noted that while capacity enhancement was "neglected during 'fascist rule'," the interim government has undertaken extensive measures for the modernisation of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, including weapons acquisition, domestic production, and technological upgrades.
The Chief Adviser highlighted Bangladesh's role as a responsible and reliable name in global peace and security, serving in 63 missions over 37 years and currently in 10, and recognized as one of the largest contributors of women peacekeepers. Reaffirmed Bangladesh's belief in respectful coexistence but stressed the need to "remain prepared and determined to defend sovereignty against any aggressive external threat."
CA announced a policy decision to significantly expand BNCC activities to involve a large number of students and youth in national defence and welfare initiatives.
The event, which began with one minute of silence for the earthquake victims, was attended by Chiefs of the three services, serving and retired members, guests from friendly nations, and political leaders.
