6 Police Officers, Including Biplob, Iqbal, and Ruhani, Dismissed from Service

The government has dismissed six Bangladesh Police officers from service on charges of unauthorized absence from workplace (desertion) and misconduct. The disciplinary action was announced through separate notifications issued on Wednesday (August 12), signed by Senior Secretary Monjur Morshed Chowdhury of the Discipline-1 and 2 branches under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to the notifications, the six dismissed officers are: former Joint Police Commissioner (Admin & DB-South) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Biplob Kumar Sarkar, former Joint Police Commissioner (Additional DIG) of DMP Sudeep Kumar Chakrabarty, former Deputy Police Commissioner of DMP Kazi Ashraful Azim, former Deputy Police Commissioner of DMP Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, former Additional Superintendent of Police of 8 APBn, Ukhia, Cox's Bazar Rajan Kumar Das and former Assistant Police Commissioner of DMP Md. Golam Ruhani.

Biplob Kumar Sarkar was dismissed for desertion after remaining absent without official permission since August 6, 2024. Sudeep Kumar Chakrabarty was dismissed from service effective from August 22, 2024, due to unauthorized absence. Kazi Ashraful Azim was dismissed for showing disregard for official legal orders, misconduct, and desertion following his absence from work starting August 14, 2024.

Mohammad Iqbal Hossain was terminated from service retroactively from August 28, 2024, on grounds of desertion. Rajan Kumar Das was dismissed effective December 31, 2024, under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules for misconduct and desertion after remaining absent without authorization. Md. Golam Ruhani was dismissed for desertion following his unauthorized absence from work starting August 11, 2024.

The notifications noted that internal investigations conducted under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018, proved the allegations against these officers beyond reasonable doubt.

Before imposing the major penalty, the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) was consulted, and the commission concurred with the dismissal recommendation. Subsequently, the President, acting as the appointing authority, granted final approval for the dismissals on August 10, 2026.
