A 10-year-old madrasa student drowned while learning to swim in Madarganj upazila of Jamalpur on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased identified as Anas the son of local resident Hafizur Rahman. Anas was a student at the Haji Omed Ali Hurunnesa Hafizia Madrasa in Jonail Chelenipara.
According to family and local sources, Anas went missing on Tuesday afternoon while practicing swimming in a pond near his house in the Madarganj Model Thana intersection area.
Locals later rescued him from the water and rushed him to the Madarganj Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor declared him dead.
Madarganj Model Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Snehashish Roy confirmed the incident, stating that police officials visited the scene upon receiving the news.
The tragic incident has cast a deep shadow of grief over the family and the local community.
