Residents, politicians, and community leaders formed a human chain in Bagerhat's Morelganj upazila on Wednesday afternoon, demanding the immediate establishment of the proposed Selimabad Police Station.
Organized by the "Proposed Selimabad Police Station Implementation Sangram Parishad," the demonstration took place at Daibajhati Bazaar.
Morelganj is the second-largest upazila in Bangladesh. Speakers at the rally highlighted the administrative and security challenges faced by residents of nine unions located on the eastern bank of the Panguchi River. They urged the government to expedite the creation of the new police station to ensure better law enforcement coverage for this geographically separated region.
Key speakers included Advocate Nazrul Islam Kajal, chief coordinator of the implementation committee, and Advocate Md. Mehedi Hasan Yad, general secretary of the Morelganj Upazila BNP. The event was moderated by Nurul Alam Sohag, organizing secretary of the Putikhali Union BNP.
The rally also saw active participation from several former union chairmen—including Md. Ataur Rahman, Maulana Abdul Khalek, Khan Keramat Ali, and Abdul Jabbar Molla—alongside local leaders from the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and Chhatra Dal, who collectively echoed the pressing need for decentralized administrative services.
