Two Bangladeshi youths were detained by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) for allegedly crossing into Indian territory via the North Jhaukuti border in Nageshwari upazila, Kurigram.
The detainees have been identified as Solaiman Hossain, son of Solaiman from Bagmara village in Narayanpur Union, and Sohag Mia, son of the late Anwar Hossain from South Baldia in Bhurungamari Upazila.
According to BGB and local sources, the duo crossed near international border pillar 1037 into the Takimari area of Dhubri district, Assam, late Sunday night. They were subsequently apprehended by BSF personnel with the help of local Indian residents.
Sohag’s elder brother, Sohel Rana, stated that Sohag had been missing for three days. "I learned about his detention this morning. I have no idea why he crossed the border," he said while waiting for news at Chaudhaghari Bazar.
Narayanpur Union Parishad Chairman Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the report, noting that while the detention is confirmed, the current legal status of the youths remains unknown.
Lt. Col. Mahbub Ul Haque, Commander of Kurigram 22 BGB Battalion, said, "We are aware of the detention. A flag meeting has been requested with the BSF this afternoon to discuss the matter."
