A 20-year-old tractor driver died after his vehicle overturned while cultivating an Aman paddy field on the banks of the Padma River in Charbhadrasan, Faridpur.
Police, fire service personnel, and locals recovered the body of the victim, Joy Biswas, from the riverbank in Balurghat village around 11:00 am on Friday (June 5).
Joy was the son of Golam Ali Biswas from Shahbazpur village in Jhenaidah’s Shailkupa upazila. According to locals, he had been working in the area for the past two days, plowing land owned by a local resident.
The accident occurred late Thursday night. Around 1:00 am on Friday, Joy was cultivating the riverbank when he lost control of the tractor. The vehicle slipped into the river, trapping him underneath. Because he was working alone late at night, the incident went unnoticed.
Around 8:00 am on Friday, locals spotted the tractor's wheels protruding from the water and notified the police. A Charbhadrasan Fire Service team launched a rescue operation shortly after, recovering the body at 11:00 am.
Charbhadrasan Fire Service Station Officer Ohidul Islam stated that the tractor was partially submerged in the mud and water. "We suspect the accident occurred either because the driver fell asleep at the wheel or because the soft soil on the riverbank suddenly collapsed," he said.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Mozammel Haque Biswas of the Charbhadrasan Police Station confirmed the recovery. "We have prepared the initial inquest report," SI Biswas said. "The victim's family has been informed, and further legal action will be taken based on their decisions."
