Khandaker Shafiqul Islam, in-charge of the Laxmikunda River Police, said the operation is part of the 22-day national campaign to protect mother hilsa during the breeding season, when fishing is strictly prohibited.

“The river police are working tirelessly to ensure the success of the conservation drive. Anyone violating the ban will face strict legal action,” he added.

A case has been filed under the Fish Conservation Act, and the arrested fishermen have been sent to jail through the local court. Police have confirmed that such operations will continue throughout the ban period.
