


Nine fishermen have been arrested for illegally fishing in the Padma River in Ishwardi, Pabna, in violation of a government-imposed fishing ban during the hilsa breeding season.
The arrests were made during a special operation conducted by members of the Laxmikunda River Police Outpost between 2:00 AM and 5:00 AM on Sunday night (12 October).
The detainees are residents of Nurullapur village in Lalpur Upazila, Natore. They have been identified as:
.Moynal Mondal, son of late Mojibar Rahman
.Farhad Hossain, son of Joynul Abedin Md. Ashraf Prang
.Monirul Islam and Shamim Sardar, sons of late Tengra Sardar
.Naeemuddin, son of Md. Monsur Rahman
.Rubel Sardar, son of Rezaul Sardar
.Rahim Sardar, son of Md. Rashid Sardar
.Shahidul Biswas, son of late Kashem Biswas
Khandaker Shafiqul Islam, in-charge of the Laxmikunda River Police, said the operation is part of the 22-day national campaign to protect mother hilsa during the breeding season, when fishing is strictly prohibited.
“The river police are working tirelessly to ensure the success of the conservation drive. Anyone violating the ban will face strict legal action,” he added.
A case has been filed under the Fish Conservation Act, and the arrested fishermen have been sent to jail through the local court. Police have confirmed that such operations will continue throughout the ban period.
