Police have arrested Sohel Rana (35), nephew of deceased Julekha Begum, on suspicion of involvement in the controversial mother-daughter murder case in Ramganj, Lakshmipur. He is the son of the deceased's brother-in-law Siraj and is known as a known drug addict in the area. According to local sources, on Friday night, Ramganj police arrested Sohel Rana, nephew of Sonapur Bazar businessman Mizanur Rahman. It is alleged that Sohel, who had been living in Dhaka for a long time, recently returned to the area and started using drugs and trading again. A few months ago, a dispute broke out between Mizanur Rahman and Sohel Rana over cutting down some trees from Mizanur Rahman's own land. At that time, when Mizanur Rahman beat him, the deceased Tanha Akhter advanced a stick to protect her father. This angered Sohel Rana. Locals allege that Sohel's movements on Thursday night, the day of the incident, were suspicious and his statements given to various media outlets later are considered an attempt to hide the real incident. The deceased Julekha Begum (55) and her daughter Tanha Akter Meem (20) were buried in the family graveyard in the Khamarbari area after the funeral prayers on Friday afternoon. Ramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abdul Bari said, "Sohel Rana is being detained and questioned as a suspect in the murder of the mother and daughter." It is noteworthy that on October 9 (Thursday) between the evening and 10 pm, Julekha Begum, the wife of Mizanur Rahman, a businessman from Sonapur Bazar, and her daughter Tanha Akter Meem were murdered in a room of their two-story building in Khamarbari, Ichapur Union of the upazila.
