Police in Bhola's Char Fashion have arrested four men and seized 293 sacks of fertilizer that were being smuggled toward Myanmar via the Meghna River.

The arrests took place around 2 am Wednesday along the Betua Meghna riverbank in the upazila. A truck and a boat used to transport the fertilizer were also seized.

Those arrested all residents of Chittagong were identified as Md. Parvez Hossain(37), Md. Siraj(57), Md. Sohel(28) and Md. Shahraj.

Officer-in-Charge Mahmud Al Farid Bhuiyan of Char Fashion Police Station said the group had transported the fertilizer from Chittagong by truck and attempted to smuggle it across the river to Myanmar by boat. Local residents noticed the activity and alerted police who raided the site and made the arrests.

The truck driver managed to flee after spotting police and remains at large.

Authorities said legal action is underway against the arrested individuals as well as the seized fertilizer, truck and boat.
