State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam stated on Friday that the National Parliament has finally become an effective body following the commencement of the 13th National Parliament on March 12.

Speaking as the chief guest at an Iftar mahfil organized by the BNP at Talma More in Nagarkanda Upazila, she noted that the session marks the end of a 17-year struggle, culminating in the success of the July Movement.

"The Parliament has returned as the center of democracy, politics, and development," Shama Obaid said, expressing confidence that the house will now truly reflect the aspirations of Bangladesh’s 180 million people.

Highlighting the party's commitment to public welfare, she pointed out that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman initiated the family card distribution program immediately after the elections. "The fact that this began before the election ink even dried on voters' hands is proof of the BNP’s dedication to the people," she added.

The event was attended by District BNP Convener Syed Modarres Ali Isa, former Upazila BNP General Secretary Saifur Rahman Mukul, and other senior leaders from the party’s various wings.
