Labor and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury has announced financial assistance for the victims of the Keraniganj gas light factory fire. The families of those killed will receive Tk 2 lakh, while injured workers will receive up to Tk 1 lakh for medical expenses.
The Minister announced the aid after inspecting the fire-ravaged factory on Saturday (April 4). During the visit, he assessed the damage and expressed his condolences to the grieving families.
Following the inspection, Minister Chowdhury visited the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery to meet with injured workers. He instructed hospital authorities to ensure the highest quality of care and assured them of full government support.
The financial aid will be disbursed from the Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation. "The government is committed to worker welfare," the Minister told reporters. "Under the Prime Minister's direction, we are working to ensure workplace safety and will not tolerate negligence that endangers lives."
To ensure accountability, the Minister ordered the formation of a five-member investigation committee, led by a Joint Secretary of the Ministry. The committee must submit a detailed report within five working days. Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka has been directed to submit a separate independent report on the incident.
