


Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie declared on Tuesday that the government will maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption in large-scale water projects. Speaking at a discussion for World Water Day, the Minister emphasized that the public expects tangible results from investments worth thousands of crores.
"The countrymen are waiting to see the benefits of these massive projects," the Minister stated. "We will not tolerate any looting of project funds or opportunistic corruption." Canal Excavation and Safe Water
Minister Annie highlighted the government’s ambitious plan to revive the national canal excavation program, a strategy largely dormant since 1981.
Five-Year Goal The government aims to excavate 20,000 kilometers of canals over the next five years.
Expert Oversight The Minister urged engineers and experts to ensure proper site selection and coordination to avoid wasting resources.
Integrated Management Efforts will focus on water conservation, pollution control, and climate change adaptation to ensure universal access to safe water.
Reflecting on the country’s political journey, the Minister noted that the current administration's mandate is built on years of sacrifice and the recent July Movement. He reaffirmed that the Ministry of Water Resources will prioritize transparency and skilled manpower to deliver on its promises to the people.
