A Dhaka court on Thursday granted a five-day remand for retired Lieutenant General Sheikh Mamun Khaled, former Director General of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), in connection with the Delwar Hossain murder case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Siddique Azad issued the order following a hearing. The case involves the killing of Delwar Hossain in the Mirpur area during the July 2024 mass uprising.
Earlier in the day, the investigation officer, DB Police Sub-Inspector Kafil Uddin, presented the accused in court and sought a seven-day remand. Following arguments from both the Public Prosecutor, Advocate Omar Faruk Farooqui, and defense counsel, Advocate Nazrul Islam Khan Pakhi, the court approved five days for interrogation.
Sheikh Mamun Khaled was arrested late Wednesday night from his residence in Mirpur DOHS.
According to the case statement, on July 19, 2024, a group of 500–700 armed individuals attacked students and civilians protesting in the Falpatti area of Mirpur-10. Delwar Hossain was critically injured during the indiscriminate firing. He was initially treated at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and later moved to a private hospital in Shyamoli, where he succumbed to his injuries on the morning of July 21.
