


Bangladesh is set to observe Armed Forces Day (21 November) today with solemnity and enthusiasm nationwide. The day commemorates the pivotal moment in 1971 when the three wings of the Bangladesh Armed Forces the Army, Navy, and Air Force were officially established and launched a unified, all-out offensive against the Pakistani occupation forces during the Liberation War. This day has been commemorated annually since the country gained independence.
The day's events will commence with special prayers at mosques in all cantonments, naval, and air force establishments after Fajr prayers, seeking welfare for the nation and progress for the Armed Forces.
The central ceremony will take place in the morning at 'Shikha Anirban' (the Eternal Flame) at Dhaka Cantonment, where the nation's leaders will pay their respects: 1. President Mohammed Shahabuddin 2. Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus 3. The chiefs of the three services (Army, Navy, and Air Force)
They will place wreaths to honour the Armed Forces members who made the ultimate sacrifice in 1971. Following the homage ceremony, the three service chiefs will pay courtesy calls on the President and the Chief Adviser. Later, the Chief Adviser will host a special reception at the Army Multipurpose Complex to meet and honour the family members of the Bir Shresthas (the highest gallantry award recipients) and other award-winning freedom fighters. During this event, he will also distribute peace awards to personnel of the Armed Forces.
Additional programmes are planned across all army garrisons, naval ships, establishments, and air force bases throughout the country. The day will conclude with a reception hosted by the Chief Adviser at Senakunja, Dhaka Cantonment, at 4 pm.
