


Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus cast his vote today in the 13th National Assembly election and a historic referendum on constitutional reform. He arrived at the Gulshan Model High School and College center at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 12.
This election is seen as a pivotal step in Bangladesh’s democratic transition following the August 2024 uprising. Alongside electing representatives, citizens are casting ballots in a national referendum to decide on significant state reforms outlined in the "July Charter."
Earlier, BNP Chairperson and candidate for the Dhaka-17 constituency, Tarique Rahman, exercised his franchise at the same center. Power and Energy Advisor Fawzul Kabir Khan also voted at this location.
The Battle for Dhaka-17 In the high-profile Dhaka-17 constituency—spanning Gulshan, Banani, and parts of the Cantonment—BNP’s Tarique Rahman is the leading contender under the "Sheaf of Paddy" symbol. His primary opponent is Dr. Khaliduzzaman, the candidate for the 11-party electoral alliance, contesting with the "Scales" symbol.
Although 11 candidates initially filed for this seat, five independent candidates withdrew their names to support Tarique Rahman. Those who withdrew include SM Abul Kalam Azad (BNF), Shamim Ahmed, Md. Rashedul Haque, Manjur Humayun, and Enayet Ullah.
Voter Demographics and Security Dhaka-17 has a total of 333,777 registered voters, including 174,709 males, 159,060 females, and 8 third-gender voters. A festive atmosphere has been reported at polling stations, supported by a rigorous security framework to ensure a peaceful voting process.
