A 25-year-old Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) leader died late Tuesday night after his motorcycle crashed into a stalled truck on the Shaheed Wasim Flyover in Chittagong.
The victim, Faiyaz Tazrian, was a member of the NCP Chittagong Metropolitan unit and an IT professional. He was the son of Hathazari Upazila BNP joint convener Hakim Uddin.
The accident occurred around 11:30 p.m. near the flyover's GEC intersection. According to police and party sources, Faiyaz was traveling from Gate No. 2 toward Lalkhan Bazar. A broken-down truck was parked on the flyover in an area left completely dark due to inactive streetlights. Police believe that due to the darkness and roads made slippery by recent rain, Faiyaz was unable to spot the stalled vehicle in time.
He sustained critical injuries on impact. Police and local NCP workers rescued him and rushed him to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) emergency department, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. His body was handed over to his family at approximately 2:00 a.m.
Chittagong Metropolitan NCP Office Secretary Riduan Hridoy expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating that Faiyaz was a highly active organizer. Earlier on Tuesday, Faiyaz had participated in a party human chain in front of the Chittagong Press Club.
