


Independence Day was observed with due dignity and solemnity in Kurigram on Thursday (March 26).
The day began early in the morning with a 31-gun salute at 5:59 am. As the sun rose, officials and residents gathered to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War.
Wreaths were laid at the district’s victory pillar in memory of the fallen heroes. The ceremony was organised by the district administration.
Deputy Commissioner Annapurna Debnath, Superintendent of Police Khandaker Fazle Rabbi, Kurigram-2 MP Dr. Atiq Mujahid, District Council Administrator Sohel Hossain Kaikobad, along with other officials, placed wreaths.
Various organisations also paid their respects, including the District Freedom Fighters’ Association, District BNP, NCP, Kurigram Press Club, educational institutions, and government and private offices, as well as social and cultural groups.
The day was marked by a respectful and emotional atmosphere, with various programmes held throughout the day to commemorate Independence Day and honour the sacrifices of the martyrs.
