Police have arrested three men following a daring robbery in the Pagar area of Tongi, Gazipur, where miscreants allegedly looted Tk 10 lakh from two shops after firing blank shots and exploding cocktails.
The victim, businessman Liton Mia, filed a case with Tongi East Police Station on Sunday afternoon, naming eight individuals and 15–20 unidentified accomplices. Following a swift raid, police apprehended local residents Rabiul Islam (36), Shafi Mia (32), and Nayan Islam Raj (33). They were sent to jail by a court on Monday afternoon.
Tongi East Police Station OC Mehedi Hasan stated that the attack likely stemmed from a pre-existing dispute between Rabiul and the plaintiff, Abdul Malek. "The injured are receiving treatment at various facilities, including Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital. Those in critical condition have been moved to Dhaka for advanced care," the OC added.
Local sources suggest the violence was triggered by tensions over a controversial Facebook post. A gang reportedly attacked and vandalized several shops in the Jhinu Market area, using explosives and gunfire to create panic before looting the cash. Police are continuing drives to arrest the remaining suspects.
